The Reincarnated Assassin Is a Genius Swordsman

Chapter 1229
Glenn kicked off from the narrow peak of North Grave Mountain where even the slightest misstep would result in a fall. He advanced through the endless sky as if he had eight wings attached to his back, reaching the North Sea where white waves crashed.
It was a distant land that ordinary people would barely reach even after running for days and nights, but for Glenn, the time it took to drink a cup of tea was sufficient.
Glenn stepped onto the sea where rough currents surged. The waves that had been raging as if about to run wild immediately calmed their waters like the lake at the annex building as soon as his toes touched them.
The North Sea had originally been known as a place where people could not live. The bone-piercing cold was a given, and the waves were so fierce and high that even skilled sailors could not take ships out.
But Glenn was not content with merely stepping on such rough waves—he completely crushed them as he walked toward the end of the sea where red currents rose. It was martial prowess that suited the name of the Destructive King perfectly. With each step Glenn took, his body advanced to distances so far they couldn't be captured by sight.
The Supreme Harmony Steps that he had developed himself and taught to Raon could have been called some sort of teleportation techniques without it being strange.
Glenn eventually reached the end of the North Sea in a not-so-long time and stood before the sea that spewed red currents. Even though he was suppressing the sea, terrifying waves endlessly swirled at this location.
"Were you hiding here?"
Glenn let out a snort as he looked into the sea where dark red currents churned.
"Don't waste time, come out."
When he gestured with his hand and told him to come out, the waves before his eyes—no, the entire North Sea—began to vibrate and massive waterspouts started rising from all directions. Kwaaaaaa! Along with tremendous waves of power, the vast northern sea split in half, and from below, a man wrapped in dark red currents emerged.
He wore a red dragon helmet with ten horns of various sizes sprouting from his head, and his build was so massive that it gave the feeling of a rock or tree moving.
It was an appearance that would inevitably draw attention anywhere, but what captured the gaze most were the eyes flashing within the helmet. In those two pupils that appeared both black and red, the two words "Destructive King" seemed to wordlessly flash.
"Heavenly Demon."
Glenn slightly bit his lips as he felt the Heavenly Demon's aura that made his skin tingle.
'As expected, this one is different.'
He has ascended to the same realm as him. Derus Robert, whom he saw recently, is certainly a strong person, but he hasn't reached the absolute realm yet. He would have to prepare for ascension for this battle, but if he aimed for an opening, he could definitely kill the Heavenly Demon.
But the Heavenly Demon before his eyes now was an existence he couldn't guarantee victory against even if he fought with all his might. Truly a hair's difference. It wouldn't be strange to say that the day's physical condition and luck would determine the outcome.
'It's a bit regrettable.'
The Heavenly Demon and Derus Robert were rejecting heaven's call with the help of non-human beings. Since their case was different from his own, who was rejecting heaven with only his own power, he felt somewhat envious of them.
'Rather than martial prowess or growth...I just wanted to spend more time with the children.'
He no longer had any desire for martial prowess. What moved him now was only his affection for Zieghart.
'I don't think I would lose now.'
Because he had firmly steeled his previously wavering heart, he felt he would absolutely not lose even to the Heavenly Demon who was his equal.
"Glenn Zieghart."
The Heavenly Demon heavily nodded his chin while meeting Glenn's eyes.
"I didn't expect you to call for me."
He curled his lips as if finding it interesting. Just his current appearance seemed to reveal what kind of personality he possessed.
"There's no law saying only you can call for me, is there?"
Glenn chuckled and waved his hand.
"I called you because I have something to say too. Of course, I didn't know you were this close."
He narrowed his eyes as he looked at the North Sea where the Heavenly Demon stood.
'I don't know if he was really here all along, or if he moved here.'
No matter how much he had ascended to the heavens, it was difficult to know whether the Heavenly Demon had been hiding here from the beginning, or if he had moved here from somewhere else using Eden's magic.
'As expected, I need to deal with this guy quickly.'
Since he could suddenly appear like this and attack Zieghart, it seemed best to end the Heavenly Demon with his own hands.
"Speak."
The Heavenly Demon calmly nodded as if he would accept whatever was said.
"You know that Derus Robert is dead, don't you?"
Glenn lowered his eyebrows as he looked at the pupils within the Heavenly Demon's helmet.
"......"
The Heavenly Demon said nothing and showed no change in expression. Regardless of whether he knew or not, he seemed to have no particular interest in the existence called Derus Robert.
"So?"
He narrowed his eyes as if telling him to say what came next.
"Five Demons. No, including Derus Robert, only you from Eden remain among the Six Demons. On the other hand..."
Glenn raised his hand toward the Heavenly Demon.
"The Six Kings still have five remaining. Even if Eden has the strongest martial prowess among individual forces, you will now be crushed by numbers."
He leisurely folded his fingers, saying it was over before the war even began.
"So?"
The Heavenly Demon nodded his chin, meaning to continue.
"I'll give you a chance."
Glenn nodded his chin just like the Heavenly Demon.
"A chance to have a life-and-death duel with me."
Glenn said he would face the Heavenly Demon, Eden's strongest being, one-on-one, and raised his fist with fingers folded. Though his hand was empty, a sharp aura bloomed as if he were holding a sword.
"A chance..."
The Heavenly Demon slowly closed his eyes and then opened them.
"Glenn Zieghart. You're using clumsy tactics."
He let out an open sneer while turning his chin to the side.
"Who would be fooled by a martial artist obsessed with the way of destruction suddenly revealing clumsy schemes now?"
The Heavenly Demon consistently showed calm eyes as if he were reading all of Glenn's thoughts. His appearance didn't seem like that of a leader of a force driven into a corner. Rather, looking at just his current state, it seemed like Glenn was in an unfavorable situation.
"What?"
Glenn deeply furrowed his brow while hiding the turmoil in his heart.
"Glenn Zieghart."
The Heavenly Demon called Glenn again with serious eyes.
"Isn't the biggest factor in why you're proposing a life-and-death duel to me not to have a duel between martial artists, but to protect what you have?"
He asked back if the reason Glenn requested a life-and-death duel was not as a martial artist, but only to protect Zieghart.
"Hmm..."
Glenn couldn't answer immediately and let out a low groan.
"If Derus Robert is dead as you say, then we are indeed in an unfavorable situation. But so what?"
The Heavenly Demon arrogantly crossed his arms as if he had nothing to worry about.
"Instead of making such a proposal to me, wouldn't it be enough to find Eden hiding somewhere and attack? You would be superior in both numbers and strength."
He rubbed his chin as if it would be fine to crush them with force as Glenn had said.
"Glenn Zieghart. What you want is for us not to cause unannounced chaos. Just as even a mouse will bite a cat when cornered, there's no telling what Eden's ghosts might do if unleashed."
Having read all of his psychology that even Glenn himself didn't know, the Heavenly Demon twisted his lips.
"That's..."
Glenn felt his chest turn cold as he listened to the Heavenly Demon's words.
'Did I really think that way...?'
Watching Raon's fight, he had thought he wanted to adorn his end as a martial artist. But listening to the Heavenly Demon's words, it seemed he had been more worried about the children of Zieghart living in the present than about his life as a martial artist.
'He's right...'
That bastard's words are correct. Seeing Raon collapse after defeating Derus Robert, he had thought of settling things with the Heavenly Demon, hoping that Zieghart's children would not be hurt any further and would only lead happy lives. If he somehow killed the Heavenly Demon, Eden would be no different from a ragtag group.
But that wasn't a good idea.
'If I had fought the Heavenly Demon like this...'
Glenn bit his lips as he thought of the result of fighting the Heavenly Demon now.
'Not definitely, but there's a high chance of losing.'
A little while ago, he had thought he would absolutely not lose, but he hadn't even realized what his own emotions were.
Though they were at the same realm and walked the same path of destruction, if one side hadn't properly awakened to their own emotions while the other fought solely to prove their martial arts, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say the outcome was tilted from the start.
"That's fine though."
The Heavenly Demon calmly nodded.
"What...?"
Glenn hurriedly raised his head upon hearing the Heavenly Demon's words.
"I'll fall for your foolish scheme. I also have something I want to prove by defeating the Destructive King of the North."
The Heavenly Demon heavily nodded, saying he would engage in a one-on-one life-and-death duel as Glenn proposed. His appearance was no different from the very embodiment of the destructive path that all martial artists dream of.
"However, the schedule will remain the same."
The Heavenly Demon uncrossed his arms and raised his hand. The thick muscles of his inhuman forearms writhed.
"I have been coordinating my body, mind, and martial arts for the day I would defeat you."
He said he had been refining his martial prowess thinking only of the date that Derus had set.
"How about it."
The Heavenly Demon narrowed his eyes, saying he would accept those conditions.
"......"
Glenn slowly nodded as he looked at the Heavenly Demon's eyes that flickered fiercely like a beast.
"Good. Let's end everything on that day."
"Who is the strongest on the continent will be decided in front of everyone."
The Heavenly Demon confidently clenched his fist with fingers as thick as tree roots. Just by him making a fist, the North Sea churned and spread in all directions as if terrified.
"As you wish, Eden's ghosts will not move until that day. However..."
The Heavenly Demon slowly turned his back as if returning to where he originally was.
"I won't control the miscreants outside."
The Heavenly Demon waved his hand as if he wouldn't bother with the others.
"The miscreants outside?"
"There are some who went outside without permission while I was training."
The Heavenly Demon snorted, saying they don't listen well because they're ghosts with stubborn monsters mask.
"Then let's meet on that day."
With those final words, he blazed up in dark red flames and disappeared into the cold air of the North Sea.
"Hmm..."
Glenn chewed his lips as he recalled the words the Heavenly Demon had said.
'He coordinated his martial prowess for that day...'
The Heavenly Demon had said he was refining his body, mind, and martial arts for the day he would fight with him. It meant he was so serious that he wouldn't control Eden's ghosts outside. It was the complete opposite path from his own, which had been focused on raising and supporting his successors including Raon.
"It's not just that the odds have shifted to his side..."
Glenn clenched his teeth while putting strength into his fingertips.
"It might have been certain defeat."
The Heavenly Demon seemed to have dedicated everything for the day he would fight with him. He could feel the desperate emotion of wanting to win in his eyes. If he had engaged in a life-and-death duel knowing nothing, it would have been natural for him to lose to the Heavenly Demon. The Heavenly Demon seemed to have given advice that wasn't advice because he didn't want such a hollow result.
"Phew..."
Glenn was furrowing his brow while recalling the destructive path the Heavenly Demon had shown when— Whoooooosh! Golden flames shot up into the sky from the direction of the Zieghart Annex Building. It was his grandson's sword containing the sky with the Azure Sky Sword he had taught him.
"Is he cheering for me?"
Raon seemed to know that he was meeting with the Heavenly Demon and showed such swordsmanship as encouragement.
"Yes."
Glenn clenched his fist again with trembling hands, his pride wounded.
"It's enough if I start over. However, I won't change the heart I've decided on."
He lightly grasped the Heavenly Tremor at his waist and let out a calm smile.
"I should return to my original intentions. To those very distant original intentions."
