The Reincarnated Assassin Is a Genius Swordsman
Chapter 1489
Chapter 1489
"The outcome has already been decided?"
Derus Robert repeated Raon's words verbatim and chuckled.
"Surely you don't think these undead are all I've prepared?"
He burst into laughter, as if in disbelief, brushing back the hair that had fallen over his forehead.
"The army of the dead is only just beginning."
As Derus Robert spread both arms wide, following his gesture, a sea-like surge of death aura rose up behind the undead surrounding Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance.
Hwooooooosh!
Above the seething, surging death aura, undead clad in darkness like robes rose up. These were not the ones Raon had killed in this war. Those who had died years — or even a thousand years — ago, never having found peace in death, had reappeared in the present world.
Hheuuuuu!
The undead exhaled breaths laced with death and cold energy. As they slowly raised their heads, their eyes burned like smoldering embers with hatred and killing intent toward the living.
-Th-that's quite a lot…?
Wrath swallowed hard, looking at the undead who had reversed the encirclement on Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance.
-Just when did he gather that many?
He gave up trying to count the undead and shook his head.
"W-what is this? Why did it turn out this way?"
Krein looked back, his hand gripping his sword trembling.
"We clearly had them surrounded — so why are we the ones surrounded now?!"
He blinked rapidly, saying the situation made no sense.
"I-I'm scared…."
Dorian, as if too afraid to even look back at the undead behind him, kept his eyes fixed straight ahead.
"A-and it seems like that's not even all of it…."
He read the composed expression on Derus Robert's face and, seemingly frightened, chewed on his lips.
"Good!"
Martha let out a hearty roar.
"It was getting bland, but now there's a lot more to smash!"
She raised her fist, blazing with Titan's Aura, saying the surprise operation hadn't been enough to satisfy her.
"Yeah…."
Runaan nodded calmly.
"It's nothing…."
She placed her hand on her sword, saying she'd simply freeze the undead and send them back to death again.
"Don't let your guard down."
Burren sighed, a hand resting on his head.
"Every one of those undead is a powerhouse. Derus Robert didn't just revive anyone."
He coolly assessed the situation and gave advice to the Light Wind Palace Swordsmen.
"That nephew of mine...No, compared to the Head of House, he's got no guts!"
Balder drew his Flexible Sword, raising it like a whip, and twisted his mouth.
"Now that we've come this far, all that's left is to fight, come what may!"
He licked his lips as if wanting to charge in right away.
"No, it was good advice."
Karoon pushed Balder aside and stepped up next to Burren.
"However, since the battle that's already begun can't be undone, from now on make sure to add words that can give your subordinates courage as well."
He patted Burren's shoulder, teaching him the mindset a leader ought to have.
"Yes!"
Burren bowed deeply to Karoon, as if vowing to keep it in mind.
"Ugh…."
"Th-there's way too many of them?"
"And the energy coming off them isn't normal either…."
"Wasn't this not part of the plan?"
"C-can we really do this? Those undead will just come back to life even if they die…."
The Swordsmen of Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance, overwhelmed by the number and energy of the undead far beyond their expectations, rolled their eyes anxiously and gulped down dry swallows.
"Is this what it means to overturn the setup?"
Raon, too, seemed to sense the shift in mood among Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance, and slightly furrowed his brow.
"No. This isn't overturning the setup — it's merely shaking it a little."
Derus Robert's gaze passed over Raon to the Swordsmen behind him, and he licked his lips.
'The Swordsmen's morale has sunk.'
It would be best to crush them decisively here.
Unlike the executives of Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance, the ordinary Swordsmen could not completely ignore the death aura emanating from the undead. It seemed best to drive the wedge in firmly now, to be certain of breaking their morale.
"Let me introduce some faces you'll be very glad to see."
As Derus Robert raised a single finger, three men clad in robes and long coats walked up from behind him.
"Every one of them has missed you."
Derus Robert took a step back, and the three men behind him stepped forward, throwing off the robes that had covered their entire bodies.
"It's been a while, Raon Zieghart."
The first man, who had worn a black robe, had an extremely youthful face. But on closer look, it wasn't a face — it was a mask. A supreme beauty that seemed not to exist in this world, and massive white and black wings spreading from his back. The Fallen, Eden's first chief, whose gaze seemed to entrance and devour anyone who looked at him, let out a smile both eerie and beautiful.
"The Fallen…."
Evelyn ground her teeth so hard it made a sound as she watched The Fallen's smile. She exhaled a breath laced with killing intent, as if facing a mortal enemy.
"If I'd known you'd grow this strong, I would have finished you off for certain. What a shame."
The second man, clad in a blue long coat, was a Martial Artist with a fierce gaze and sharp jawline, as if he had been through countless battlefields. As he raised a fingertip, the ground split open, and a harpoon-like massive blue spear and a horse formed of waves surged up. Dranos, the South-North Union Leader and overlord of the Water Demons who had ruled Terukan Mountain and the Lable River and wielded tremendous influence over the continent, gave a small nod.
"So this is the one who gave Raon a hard time."
Rector, seemingly recalling how his grandson Raon had nearly died in the South-North Union's territory, narrowed his eyes sharply with a hand resting on his sword.
"Raon Zieghart… you took everything from me…."
The last man's red eyes flashed as he called out Raon's name. He wore no robe or long coat, his entire body instead wrapped in a chillingly sinister mist. Just looking at the mist — the kind that seemed like it would rot your body merely by approaching — was enough to tell. The Black Tower Master, the demon king of the human world who had sought to gather every artifact in existence to complete a perfect Silent Spirit World, revealed a fury so deep it seemed to scorch the eyes. (E/N: I don't remember the whole silent spirit world thing. I am probably mistranslating something, I would need to read back the black tower arc to remember)
"Ha! That guy's back again?"
Chamber crushed the candy in her mouth. She furrowed her brow deeply, as if wanting to crush the Black Tower Master just like the shattered candy.
"Huh…? Those are…."
"T-that's The Fallen! Eden's The Fallen!"
"The South-North Union Leader is here too…."
"No, more than that, that's the Black Tower Master! The monster who won't die even when killed!"
"Why are those monsters…."
"They're undead! Derus Robert revived them as undead!"
The Swordsmen of Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance trembled all over in shock at the sight of the Five Demons' leaders, revived from death.
"Go on, greet him."
Derus Robert raised his head, a smile lingering on his face.
"Without me even needing to control them, they all missed you."
He drew a finger across his throat, saying The Fallen, the South-North Union Leader, and the Black Tower Master all wanted Raon dead.
"That's probably because all three died at your hands. You played a very good role."
Derus Robert nodded, as if it had greatly helped his own purpose. No sooner had he finished speaking than several hundred people appeared behind The Fallen, the South-North Union Leader, and the Black Tower Master. The remnants of the Five Demons, who had not even followed Derus Robert, returned to the battlefield together as their leaders came back.
"Guh…."
"Th-there's even more of them now!"
"Those aren't even undead…."
"A-are we really at an advantage here…?"
The Swordsmen of Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance gulped down dry swallows, seemingly flustered as the situation grew worse and worse.
-Th-those disgusting things!
Wrath ground his teeth.
-If you're dead, just stay dead properly!
He wagged his tail wildly, saying he wanted to freeze them all so they could never come back out again.
"And lastly…."
Derus Robert raised the condensed mass of death and aimed it at the sky. The death aura imbued in his sword surged as if to pierce through the sky of the Holy Sword Alliance, then exploded midway.
Kwaaaaaaaaang!
Above the death aura that had burst like fireworks, dark red flames blazed up. The flames, small as flower petals at first, gradually grew larger, then spread in an instant to cover the entire sky of the Holy Sword Alliance before anyone knew it.
Hwaaaaaaaaaak!
As the dark red flames, magnificent enough to connect sky and earth, subsided, within them a being of immeasurable size flashed its red eyes. The Demonic Dragon of Destruction. The god of calamity who had descended to bestow destruction upon the continent revealed itself once more.
Kuoooooooo!
As the Demonic Dragon of Destruction let out a roar imbued with dark red flames toward the sky, the sky of the Holy Sword Alliance, which had even withstood Derus Robert's sword, shook as if about to shatter, and small cracks began to appear.
"Ahh…."
"It's th-the Demonic Dragon of Destruction!"
"I-I still can't breathe…."
"How can such a being exist in this world…."
"Guhh!"
As the Demonic Dragon of Destruction manifested, the air of the Holy Sword Alliance's holy sanctuary grew so heavy it felt like it would crush and burst the humans within it. Even the Swordsmen who had steeled their fighting resolve upon seeing the Five Demons' leaders revived seemed gripped by fear, clutching their chests, their hands trembling as they held their weapons.
"This is what it means to overturn the setup."
Derus Robert spread both arms proudly. Countless undead and Revenants, the Five Demons revived and brimming with morale, the Angels seeking revenge, and even the Demonic Dragon of Destruction that shattered the very concept of the present world. Just as he had said he would overturn the setup, he instantly rendered meaningless the plan that Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance had spent so long preparing.
"Hmm…."
Raon looked in turn at The Fallen, the South-North Union Leader, and the Black Tower Master, all radiating killing intent at him, then slowly tilted his head.
"The Leader of the White Blood Religion isn't here?"
He narrowed his eyes, mentioning the Leader of the White Blood Religion, the strongest among the Five Demons.
"What…?"
Derus Robert frowned as he heard Raon's words.
"The one who'd want to kill me most should be the Leader of the White Blood Religion — so why isn't she here?"
Raon shrugged, saying the Leader of the White Blood Religion would hate him even more than The Fallen, the South-North Union Leader, or the Black Tower Master.
"That's…."
Derus Robert's brow furrowed slightly. His expression showed he hadn't imagined at all that Raon would bring up the Leader of the White Blood Religion in such an urgent situation.
"Right. She can't be here — her very soul was torn apart."
Raon let out a short laugh, as if he now understood the method by which Derus Robert had revived the Five Demons' leaders.
"In other words, if I cut down the souls of the undead, I won't ever have to see those ugly faces again. The same would go for the Revenants."
He gave a light nod of his chin, having instantly grasped the method by which Derus Robert had revived the undead.
"Hmph."
Derus Robert curled his stiffened lips back upward.
"Before that happens, won't everything melt away in the dragon's breath? Look — the humans crushed just by the dragon's presence alone."
He curled his mouth upward, looking at the Swordsmen who couldn't even breathe just from the dragon's presence.
Kuuuung!
Raon stamped his foot forward, staring at Derus Robert. Along with a resonance that shook the earth, a fearsome fighting spirit burst from him, pushing back the crushing pressure raised by the dragon.
"Haah."
"Huuk…."
"Th-thank you!"
The Swordsmen of Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance bowed their heads in gratitude to Raon, who alone was bearing the pressure of the Demonic Dragon of Destruction.
"It's meaningless either way. Those ones have already reached the end of their lives as Martial Artists."
Derus Robert let out a sneer, saying they were already so overwhelmed by the dragon's presence that they wouldn't even be able to swing their swords.
"Your eyes are nothing but knotholes."
Raon sneered right back at Derus Robert.
"Do you really think they can't swing their swords?"
He tilted his chin without even looking back, as if trusting his Swordsmen.
"Of course… hm?"
Derus Robert's lips trembled slightly as he looked at the Swordsmen standing behind Raon.
'What is this?'
The Dragon Fear held by the Demonic Dragon of Destruction crushes beings of lower rank than itself. The Swordsmen, who should have collapsed into despair and terror out of fear from the dragon's mere presence, had not yet fallen and still gripped their weapons. They looked to be in great difficulty, but their eyes clearly held the will to fight.
'This can't be….'
Derus Robert bit his lip. An indescribable sense of unease seemed to send a chill down his spine.
"…Even if those vermin can swing their swords, what does it matter?"
As Derus Robert raised his hand, the Demonic Dragon of Destruction standing above the sky of the Holy Sword Alliance opened its maw, bigger than an entire castle.
"Before the Breath of Destruction, everything will simply be erased!"
From within the dragon's maw, black as an abyss, dark red flames erupted. The Breath, the Dragon race's strongest weapon. The Breath of Destruction, more than enough to annihilate the world, poured down upon Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance.
"Swordsmen!"
The moment the Demonic Dragon of Destruction prepared its Breath, Raon drew Heavenly Drive and aimed it at the sky.
"Now is the time to cut down destruction itself!"
As he raised Heavenly Drive first, the Swordsmen of Zieghart and the Holy Sword Alliance took up the same stance.
Kugugugugu!
There was clearly fear of the Demonic Dragon of Destruction in the Swordsmen's eyes. But burning even more fiercely than that was their respect and admiration for the Lord they followed.
Goooooooo!
Just before the Breath of Destruction touched the ground of the Holy Sword Alliance.
"Unleash everything you have!"
Raon and the Swordsmen following him brought their swords down at the same moment. Their magnificent sword path merged perfectly with the constellations tracing the sky of the Holy Sword Alliance, radiating a brilliant Heavenly Drive.
Crraaaaaack!
Neither a superhuman nor a god.
A human's sword had, for the first time, cut down destruction.
