The Reincarnated Assassin Is a Genius Swordsman
Chapter 1519
Chapter 1519
"W-wait!"
True to a monster who dealt in death, Derus Robert kept speaking even though his entire body had been torn to shreds, not just his mouth.
"Wait! I have something to say to you…."
"I don't want to hear a single word of it."
Raon shook his head as he cut through Derus Robert's shattered body once more. With a blade carrying the will of Heaven-Slaying, he shredded not only Derus Robert's body but also the countless souls coiled within it.
"Kuaaaaaaah… aah."
It seemed even Derus Robert couldn't endure it this time, letting out a shriek of agony that slowly faded into silence, and the death aura wrapped around his entire body melted away like dawn mist.
Fwaaaaaah!
As Derus Robert's presence vanished, the death aura that had been eating away at one side of the Holy Sword Alliance's holy ground disappeared, and brilliant sunlight poured down.
"Whew…."
The Heavenly Demon let out a low groan, rubbing at the neck that had nearly been severed by Derus Robert.
"Even I'm shuddering."
He let out a hollow laugh, watching Raon standing behind Derus Robert's burning, shredded body.
"What! Weren't you injured?"
Darkan blinked as he looked at Raon.
"Why are you so completely fine?!"
He shouted, asking if Raon had just been faking it all along.
"Hmph."
Pride, the Monarch of Pride, snorted.
"I suppose that fellow should take the seat of Monarch of Wrath now."
He nodded calmly, as though Raon surpassed Wrath.
"Haah…."
Archangel Michael let out a sigh for the first time.
"Is he really dead?"
It seemed even she hadn't expected Derus Robert to die, coughing up blood as her eyelids trembled.
Kururururu!
Rough flames spewed from the dragon's mouth and the hole punched through its chest. Its expression was deeply twisted — it looked flustered, and anxious, and yet somehow pleased, all at once.
"Whew…."
Unlike the effortless ease with which he'd swung his sword, Raon let out an exhausted breath, as if he'd poured all his focus into the Heaven-Slaying Sword.
-Hey, you!
Wrath flew over to Raon in shock.
-Y-you, when in the world did you move!
He widened his eyes, asking how Raon had moved without him even noticing.
'I moved the instant I woke up.'
He nodded, saying that the moment he came to his senses, he'd moved straight behind Derus Robert.
'I saw that Derus Robert was only pretending to target me while actually trying to kill the Heavenly Demon, Pride, and Darkan.'
Others probably hadn't even considered it, but he had realized it the moment he opened his eyes. Derus Robert's movements and gaze had seemed aimed at him, but in truth they were focused on the Heavenly Demon, Darkan, and Pride.
-Heh….
Wrath's jaw trembled as if he found it utterly absurd.
'That's why I said it. I'm the only one who can face Derus Robert.'
Many people could withstand Derus Robert's Martial Prowess. The Heavenly Demon, Pride, Wrath, and Darkan could all manage to fight him if they were careful. But he alone, who knew the man better than anyone else, was the only one who could deliver a certain, fatal strike.
-That Derus Robert bastard was insane, but….
Wrath clicked his tongue, looking at the space where Derus Robert had vanished.
-You're the biggest lunatic this world will ever see.
He shook his head, saying it seemed Raon was even more insane than Derus Robert.
'Maybe so.'
Raon grinned, taking the remark about being crazier than Derus Robert as a compliment.
-But….
Wrath swallowed dryly, his eyes darting about.
-He's definitely dead, right?
He clicked his tongue, saying he felt uneasy precisely because it was Derus Robert.
'Yes.'
Raon nodded calmly.
'I tore apart and burned Derus Robert's body, and cut down even the thousands of souls writhing inside it.'
Inside Derus Robert's body, the souls of the dead and of Revenants had been writhing and rubbing against each other like poisons crammed into a jar. To cut down every last one of those foul-smelling souls, he had infused the Heaven-Slaying Sword with the Soul Sword, and in the end had managed to tear apart every one of them.
'He won't survive this time.'
Raon lowered his right hand, the sensation of the strike still lingering in it, down to his waist.
'And even if he's somehow still alive….'
He gripped the Heavenly Drive once more, his eyes flashing with a cold, sharp light.
'I'll just kill him again, that's all.'
Raon said that even if Derus Robert came back to life, he could kill him again, and he gathered the death aura scattering through the air toward himself, drawing it into his heart.
-Huh…?
Wrath blinked, scanning Raon's whole body.
-You didn't just recover, did you?
He clicked his tongue, saying he could sense an oddly mysterious presence coming from Raon.
'It's not that I've grown stronger.'
Raon shook his head calmly.
'I've just figured out something more I'm capable of.'
He smiled, saying it wasn't growth — he'd simply learned how to make better use of the power he already had.
-That's what growth is!
Wrath ground his teeth as if he found it absurd.
-This is really absurd! How do you get stronger even after dying and coming back to life!
He shook his head wildly, saying Raon was a person he didn't even want to associate with.
'It really isn't growth.'
Raon smiled faintly at Wrath.
'There's still more growing left for me to do.'
He waved his hand, as if there was still something he needed to resolve before he could grow any further.
-There's still more you can get stronger from, even after all that?
Wrath's jaw dropped as if he found it absurd.
-Just what did you see while you were dead?
He clicked his tongue, as if that was what he was most curious about.
'Well, first….'
Raon closed his eyes and recalled what he had seen after death.
'I kept sinking. I sank into an endless swamp, gradually losing everything.'
Even now, the moment everything he'd built up as a human vanished as he sank into the swamp was terrifying. No — he couldn't even feel terror. Because sensation and thought themselves disappeared too.
'Just as my soul was about to merge with the Swamp of Death, the sword came to mind.'
Raon placed his hand on the Heavenly Drive, saying that through the sword he hadn't forgotten his own world and had been able to return to reality.
-A, a sword…? You overcame death through a sword?
Wrath blinked, looking utterly dumbfounded.
-So that's why you're strong….
He shook his head, saying that was something not even a demon king could do.
'And….'
Raon swallowed dryly, recalling the death wearing his own face that he'd seen as he returned to reality.
-And?
Wrath clicked his tongue, looking curious.
'Never mind.'
Raon lowered his chin with a small sigh. Unlike his name as the Monarch of Wrath suggested, Wrath had a soft side to him, so it seemed there was no need to tell him that the death wearing his own face had been smiling.
-You brat! Stopping mid-sentence in the Devildom is one of the gravest offenses….
Wrath was grinding his teeth, demanding he hurry up and speak, when—
"Raon Zieghart."
Pride, the Monarch of Pride, approached with a furrowed brow.
"You should have just taken revenge on your own enemy, why did you touch this king's prey as well."
He clicked his tongue, asking why Raon had even cut down Archangel Michael.
"That's right!"
Darkan gnashed his teeth, charging forward as if ready to fight.
"I was the one who was going to kill that dragon-head!"
He shouted, pointing at the Demonic Dragon of Destruction as it folded its wings and plummeted, its chest pierced clean through.
"….."
The Heavenly Demon, having been overwhelmingly pushed back by Derus Robert, said nothing, but his narrowed eyes showed he too was curious.
"I wanted to return the favor."
Raon shook his head calmly.
"For what Derus Robert did to you all."
He lowered his eyes and then opened them again, saying he'd stabbed all three of them to pay back, in kind, exactly what Derus Robert had done during the life-and-death duel between Glenn, the Heavenly Demon, and Darkan.
"So how does it feel?"
The Heavenly Demon lowered his chin, as if curious how Raon felt.
"Refreshing. More than it's ever been."
Raon wore a bright, refreshed smile, saying he hadn't known revenge could feel this good.
"Is that so."
The Heavenly Demon nodded, as if that alone were enough.
"I wanted to cast Derus Robert into hell with my own hands, but this isn't bad either."
He smiled faintly, seeming satisfied just to have seen Derus Robert's twisted expression.
"This king isn't refreshed in the slightest!"
Pride shook his head firmly.
"I will finish that one off with this king's own hands."
As if truly intent on killing his enemy with his own strength, he didn't lay a hand on Michael, whose body had been severed by Raon.
"That decision…."
Archangel Michael wrapped ashen aura around her waist, trying to rejoin her body that had been split in half, but the will of the Heaven-Slaying Sword was too strong, and it didn't look easy.
"You will come to regret it."
She let out a heavy breath, saying Pride would come to regret not killing her just now.
"It's you who'll be doing the regretting."
Pride scoffed as he looked at Michael.
"Regretting that you didn't die just now, that is."
He bared his white teeth, saying he'd give her pain worse than having her body cut in half.
"I'm different!"
Darkan scoffed and raised his sword again.
"It's right to strike when the chance comes!"
He charged toward the Demonic Dragon of Destruction, saying that though it was a shame not to have settled the score, waiting around while an opponent was wounded would be foolish.
"Do as you like. Just…."
Raon turned his gaze toward Darkan and Pride.
"Make sure you finish it properly."
He lowered his chin, telling them to kill the Demonic Dragon of Destruction and Archangel Michael for certain, so neither could harm anyone else.
"Don't give this king orders."
Pride waved a hand, saying nothing could give him orders. Still, he seemed to share the same resolve to finish things for certain, and he didn't take his eyes off Michael.
"Fine! Trust me!"
Darkan shouted that he'd cut off the dragon's head and come back, then became a streak of crimson light and descended to the ground.
-Pride aside, can we actually trust that one?
Wrath clicked his tongue, sounding worried.
'Normally I wouldn't know, but….'
Raon narrowed his eyes at the Demonic Dragon of Destruction as it coughed up blood.
'Right now, he can do it.'
The Demonic Dragon of Destruction had already had its power halved by the Vast Heaven Sword's barrier, had used its breath attack repeatedly on top of that, and had even suffered the severe wound of having its chest pierced through. Its power had dropped to less than a quarter of what it was when it first appeared on the continent, so right now, even Darkan should be able to finish it off.
-It certainly does look that way.
Wrath lowered his brows as if in agreement.
-Then the war's all over now.
He whistled, saying he could finally catch his breath.
'Not yet.'
Raon shook his head as he looked down over the ground.
'That side is only just beginning.'
He let out a heavy breath as he took in the battle between the Six-Headed Scourge, who had inherited the power of the worst of monsters, Hydra, and Light Wind Palace.
-Hydra….
Wrath let out a low groan as he looked at the Six-Headed Scourge.
-But it'd be over in no time if you just lent a hand!
He jerked his chin, saying to finish it off now while the Six-Headed Scourge's Martial Prowess was weakened.
'No, I won't step in. That's….'
Raon loosened the hand gripping the Heavenly Drive and shook his head firmly.
'Because that's Light Wind Palace's fight.'
